Should I Start a CBD Regimen?

What is CBD?

Have you thought about starting a CBD regimen but don’t know where or how to start? Let us help you by going over a few basics.

CBD has become popular even among those who don’t consume THC or medical marijuana. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-euphoric compound found in cannabis and hemp plants. While cannabis is well known for its psychoactive effects, CBD is known for its calming non-intoxicating properties. Both compounds react to our body’s natural endocannabinoid system. THC stimulates the CB1 receptors, causing the feelings of euphoria. CBD does not stimulate the CB1 receptors and can even reduce the effects of too much THC.

CBD is a holistic “cure-all” for many people who are trying to avoid anti-anxiety medications, opioids, or sleep medications. It can provide a much-needed calming feeling for those who deal with difficult amounts of stress in their life while also containing anti-inflammatory properties for those with pain. Individuals who suffer from neuropathic and inflammatory pain find that the CBD alone can help. For those with other types of pain, adding in THC can help boost the pain-relieving properties. Keep in mind if your intention is to reduce your inflammation, CBD is best used daily to help.

Purchasing Your CBD?

While it is now widely available on the internet, stores, and at dispensaries, it is still important to pay attention to the CBD you’re purchasing. The products sold online may contain other chemicals or additives not natural to cannabis or CBD. Purchasing CBD from a dispensary ensures that not only are you receiving quality CBD, but you’re also getting other cannabinoids, terpenes, and THC. These compounds interact synergistically to create an entourage effect that enhances the benefits of the CBD.

If starting a CBD regimen sounds right to you, purchasing products and starting the process may seem confusing. CBD can come in multiple forms, the most used being tincture oils or sublingual oils. Shopping around at dispensaries you will find that there are also edibles, vapes, and flower (plants) that are CBD dominant. Finding which route works best for you may take some trial and error, but there is no wrong way. Start at a low dosage, giving yourself 1-2 hours before consuming more if needed. Dosage depends on a multitude of individual factors, so being cautious and starting slow is a good idea.

Your Next Steps

If you find that the CBD dominant products are not eliciting the results you were hoping for, moving up to a 1:1 product (equal parts THC and CBD) can be the next step. These products can cause some euphoria due to the high amounts of THC, however the CBD can reduce these feelings.

Keep in mind that the longer you continue to use cannabis, the more of a tolerance you will develop. The euphoria you feel when first introducing THC to your system will not be the same after you have used cannabis regularly for a long period of time. While you are first getting started with your CBD regimen, remember that the best way to introduce new dosages and products is to start low and go slow!
