Cannabis-Infused Hot Cocoa Recipe
Now that the colder weather has settled in, looking for a delicious way to relieve stress, ease pain, and improve your sleep this winter? Look no further than a cup of cannabis-infused hot cocoa.
Leafly has a great article on 7 ways to make cannabis-infused hot chocolate, including methods like cannabutter, cannabis-infused milk, and even THC-infused marshmallows! If you are feeling ambitious and have some time, check it out here.
If you don’t have the time to make hot chocolate from scratch, there are multiple ways you can elevate your experience with store-bought hot cocoa and with a few products from local dispensaries.
The easiest way to medicate hot chocolate (or anything!) is with kief. Tiny crystals called trichomes contribute to cannabis’ psychoactive effects. Kief refers to the trichomes that have already dried and broken off the plant. Kief can be particularly helpful for managing conditions like chronic pain, anxiety, and insomnia due to its high concentration of cannabinoids.
Kief is available to Surterra, Curaleaf, and Trulieve.
Pro-tip: both Surterra and Curaleaf charge $20 for one gram of kief, while Trulieve charges $20 for half of a gram.
Surterra and Curaleaf both offer strain-specific kief, while Trulieve only offers indica, sativa, and hybrid blends. If you are looking for a specific effect, a strain-specific kief might be right up your alley.
Indica strains may promote relaxation and sleep, while sativas can provide an uplifting and energizing effect. Hybrids offer a balanced experience.
Make the hot chocolate according to the directions on the package, and then add a small pinch of kief (about 25mg) and gradually increase the amount as needed based on your tolerance and desired effects.
Another way to spice up your hot cocoa is with a medicated chocolate bar. I personally prefer to use dark chocolate peppermint flavored chocolate, but any flavor may be used.
Add 1-3 pieces of chocolate at the bottom of your mug, and heat the chocolate with the milk. Stir to blend in and enjoy!
Surterra, Sanctuary, VidaCann, Curaleaf, and Trulieve all have excellent chocolate. Chocolate bars are generally 100mg and broken into 5mg pieces.
Lastly, another great way to medicate your hot chocolate is with a Nectar from Sunburn or an Agave Nectar from Fluent.
They both have flavored and unflavored, and Sunburn’s are strain-specific. Add the nectar after you heat the hot cocoa for the best effect.
